Picture Progress!
In this page you will we updated on our progress of building our water filter.
This is the original idea for the filter but soon enough it started to change to improve the idea.
On the picture above, you can see few of the materials will be using for the filter. However, the red water jug will be the main one to contain the filters layers.
Mesh is a material will be using in the filter to stop any type of trash such as twigs, leafs, and pieces of trash that have contaminated the water.
Creating layers of mesh was of our goal to this filter and this was one of the pieces for it.
We had decided on having different types of mesh size on each layer.
In this picture we are starting to create our second layer for it with a bit more larger circle.
The two layers of mesh will follow one another inside the water jug.
Soon enough our filter idea was changing from not being only mesh but adding other layers that would help it work better. We have been communicating with our teachers and getting more ideas to improve the filter and one suggestion was to use a Blue filter Sponge. Which we thought it would be a good addition to the filter.
Our group decided to add another layer to the filter that wasn't mesh but the Blue Filter Sponge as we mentioned before. However it would be wrapped up in cloth and would be the bottom layer for our filter.
Bottom layer for filter
Other peers were doing water filters as well and communicating with them we got suggestions from them too. One of them was sand to trap any large particles in the water.
Layer of sand after the Blue Filter Sponge.
In the end, my partners decided to combine both of the two layers into one so now they are combined into one layer. Also adding Blue Filter Sponge to it.
- Once putting it together for now its was time to test the product out
We tested our product from the water supply we had got from outside our school area.
Here is how the water supply looks like
Testing Time!
This is the result once the water entered our product.
Changes
There have been massive changes to our original idea of the product. Including the materials for the layers in the filter except were still keeping in mind of the Blue Sponge Filter. Also, the material change that will be going on the top, middle, and bottom of the filter. Our group had token the sand, the Blue Sponge Filter covered by the cloth, and the mesh out for it was not working like we imagined it to be.
We've decided to have the Blue filter Sponge on the bottom for the filter for it will capture the last pieces of trash.
The middle layer would become Charcoal. Charcoal will be able to take away Chlorine, Sediment, taste and odor from the water. However, we made sure to only use the big pieces of it and not the dust.
Layer of Charcoal
By using cloth we were able to make the Charcoal and Blue Filter Sponge not touching each other.
The top layer would be Gravel. My partner is cleaning it out so it could be ready for the filter.
By using gravel in the filter it will help capture large particles that are in the water. Once putting all the layers in to one water jug it was testing time and to boil it.
